wow, so powerful, Ahmad. I'm sure you know that by making the comparison with Nazi Germany, you really crossed the invisible line, from which there is no return. its cements your commitment to the cause of truth and rationality yet at the same time creates record of your 'wrong think'. I have several people in my life that are 100% part of the hypnotized masses and genuinely consider MY stance to be the 'cult-like' one. there's no rational conversation to be had with them.
the political goings on here in the States are nothing short of stunning and horrifying, with roughly half of the nation completely duped into believing that the obvious subversion of our electoral system is just peachy keen, totally fine. if you try to say otherwise, YOU are the 'dangerous deplorable'. it boggles my mind that they don't notice the complete absence of rational discourse. you are either in one camp or you are the enemy.
The subject of how Germans acted as they did has fascinated me since reading Two Brothers by Ben Elton. I found it, and still do find it very scary. I followed up with a bit more research, including the book They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933–45 which reveals the story of how a village became the "Good Westerners" of their time. The parallels during covid times were alarming, however it was almost impossible for anyone to consider it so, or even engage the subject in conversation without feeling you were just being humoured. That we are heading towards a fascists state is made clear by the excellent Simon Elmer in his conversations with James Delingpole. It really is very scary and the accelerator is firmly to the floor with Starmer and his band of apparatchicks at the helm. What are we to do?
“…it is also highly likely that some members involved in the case knew perfectly well that what the GMC was doing was wrong. But to raise a question, never mind an objection, would bring the glare and spotlight of the Inquisition onto themselves.”
How to inspire people to pushback against wrongdoing?
