Guilt & shame are, at bottom, angry emotions. If we do something bad to someone else, we feel angry at ourselves. Strong people use that anger to fuel improvement. Weak people blame the prompt rather than their own behaviour. The fact that people are attacking those who speak out proves that they KNOW they're doing wrong.
