Sometimes a podcast exceeds all expectations, and, for me, this was definitely one of those. A truly inspiring story.

I love the thumbnail Ahmad chose for you, it perfectly captures your humility and vulnerability, Aaron. We happened to talk while I was in the middle of watching, which was serendipitous and prepared me for the trauma you were about to reveal.

My dad's father was abusive to his mom, something that the older brothers seem to have picked up. I never saw anything like that from him. I think his faith and the Catholic Church was a big factor in his ability to break the cycle.

On the other hand, I just went to my 50th HS reunion and there was a memorial mass for the 28 classmates (out of 160) who've died. On the way in, a friend casually mentioned that he hadn't been to church since he left school because he'd been one of the victims. There was no doubt what he meant, which was such a shock and yet made sense of other things--his aloofness, his lack of a relationship back then.

Your courage and integrity, Aaron, really shine through. I'm glad the world has you in it, with everything you've gone through to make you who you are. I'm sure if there had been an easier way, God would have found it.

I really appreciated Aaron's honesty in this podcast. It's not easy to open up about addiction issues but discussions like this can help a lot of people open up to the 'surrender' moment and change forks on their path.
