Watched this episode with THIS strong woman on a sunday morning. Everyone in the house still in bed. I sometimes ask myself why I should keep on fighting - so Fiona is great, feels like my batteries are fully loaded after this one ;-)

Re Romans 13, I'd be interested to hear what William Philip (#294) would say. I am reminded of Karl Barth and Dietrich Bonhoeffer in Germany in the 1930s:
As to slavery, I am reminded of what Jesus says just after after "8:32" (in John's gospel): "They answered him, 'We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?' Jesus replied, 'Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'
I have to disagree with Ahmed's interpretation of Romans 13:1 – 7.
To read Romans 13:1 – 7 as a straightforward instruction to obey the government in everything, no matter what, is to disregard the rest of the Bible (as a side note this straightforward reading was used in an attempt to remove me from the pastorate during 2020 because I was not following all the orders from the government and local authorities).
This is a huge subject and this really bare-bones summation cannot do it justice, but merely give a taste.
Paul assumes that people will understand the greater context.
The greater context is this: no Christian could possibly agree to following a government that ordered people to bow down and worship an idol. As soon as this is, rightly, admitted, we have added the unspoken caveat, that, at times, Christians will not only stand against government instructions, but have a divine obligation to do so.
In Exodus 5:1 – 2, God says, ‘Let my people go.. ‘ and Pharaoh, the ruler, says no. Pharaoh overstepped the mark with disastrous consequences for him and the rest of Egypt.
In 1 Kings 16:29 – 17:1 king Ahab led the people to follow false gods and was confronted, on God’s command, by Elijah for misleading the people. Ahab’s misleading of the people had gone far enough and resulted in God’s man confronting him, because what Ahab was doing was wrong.
In Daniel 3 we read of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego disobeying the command to worship image of gold. These men would rather die than obey such a command.
In Daniel 6 we read of the decree that no prayers should be made for thirty days, except to king Darius. If this law was made today, I am sure there would be people who would ague this is not a big deal, don’t make a fuss: it’s just prayer and it’s only for 30 days, and if you must, do it quietly and no one will know. Daniel, however doesn’t just disobey, he does it flagrantly. We are told he, ‘… went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.’ Daniel set himself in complete opposition to the law, because it was wrong.
In Acts 5:17 – 32, we read of the apostles being persecuted and given, ‘strict orders not to teach in this name.’ by the authorities. Their response is crucial, ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!’
So, whilst Christians should obey the authorities, as a general rule, there will be times when authorities, overstep their jurisdiction, authority, or what they are doing is wrong. At these times there should not be obedience, and at times there must be open confrontation.
There will be issues that are fairly straight forward where Christians must not obey the authorities, no matter what. There will be issues that are more nuanced and, as a result, will have a variety of opinions.

I believe this to be absolutely correct. As Doc Ahmed says, we cannot Save everyone. But this is how they get us. Consent is run by Netflix and my colleagues who graduated from Osteopathic Medicine and still volunteered to inject. I still get texts from my dear colleagues saying " do you know how many died ( from Co(n)vid). Love to see an interview with Doc and Mark Devlin - I do like a tune.
