Absolutely agreed...

Awesome interview..

I agree there is lot of corruption in almost every medical branch of science!

This is something I am really glad I never had done. From the beginning, it just never made sense. It seemed incredibly risky to...allow lasers to be shot at one's eye.

Awesome interview! This is why we need Doc and his wide range of guests - I have never considered laser eye surgery (and I certainly won't now), but I would have assumed that it would be safe. The quackery goes on.

I had Lasik years ago. Scared to listen to this podcast.

Lol. I know, I'm listening now. I've actually had a good result. I couldn't read the clock by my bedside before I had Lasik. I wasn't functional without hard contacts. After Lasik, I had 20/10 vision. I could see the stars. But the results have degraded over time. An optometrist told me it is as if your eyes reset, but your vision keeps changing as it normally would. I am still legal to drive without glasses today and I can easily function without glasses, but I prefer to wear glasses all the time because of the sharpness. The doctor called me a "critical seer". Anyway, I know people that have had a second Lasik surgery, but I decided that one surgery was enough. Not risking it. I do miss being able to wear contact lenses though.

As a pilot I was told long ago no way you can do that by the CAA doctor.

Another excellent podcast.

25 years ago a colleague I worked with had laser eye surgery, he had major problems and pain afterwards for months and he left our company so he could still be suffering for all I know.

No-one touches my eyes thanks. I can drive with glasses and can read without glasses. I wouldn't risk eye surgery for all the tea in China.

Excellent interview. Keep speaking the truth. Why aren’t patients being taught about eye exercises to improve their eyesight? I basically stopped wearing my eye glasses while I’m home and only wear my prescription glasses when I’m driving. Just by performing daily eye exercise, I notice that my eyesight has improved. #FollowTheMoney

I was researching it for myself a few years ago and after learning about the auras from headlights, the potential of eyesight deteriorating further after a successful LASIK procedure and the complaints about dry eyes I decided to stick to wearing my spectacles. I didn't know about the other problems Dr Mackay discussed but having heard them listed I'm even happier with my decision.

Great talk as ever... But there was no mention of the alternative to LASIK: lens replacement surgery (refractive lens exchange). I had this done 10 years ago because after 50 I could not bear to wear reading glasses. I got plastic bi focal lenses put in both eyes. My wife had the same operation one year ago. To me it is the best thing ever, and cannot understand why LASIK is still used instead of RLE. However,I would love to know the dangers of RLE. (No one I ever talked to had heard of RLE, but it is the same operation used to fix cataracts on millions each year, except RFE uses a multi focal lens.)

I had it done 25 years ago, two weeks apart, separate payments. I think I was lucky. Went from -7 and -3 to almost 20/20. I was extraordinarily careful post op, but have terrible anxiety around anything coming near my face, umbrella ends etc. Fine in the waves , for surfing and swimming it revolutionised everything. Jack Kruse did a piece on it being terrible for depression, not just because of visible side effects but something to do with way sunlight hits eye then through to SCN and subsequent melanin/dopamine etc production. Some people especially northern latitudes get the most severe depression and then have chosen suicide. I’m hoping there is hope for us post-operative people to know good choices as the eye ages, and certainly NO more surgery

Great interview. I stopped using glasses for reading and Driving by regularly working out my eyes by looking close and far. Eating lots of eggs. I've heard DMSO at a low % can help reverse any eye conditions. Is this correct?
